Many of you had some great advice to your “young self” that we could all learn from.   The moral of the story: Never give up on yourself, play in the moment, even doing little things add up, stay positive, don’t be afraid to try new things, find things you love to do, and keep pushing towards your goals.

Happy National Physical Education Week May 1-7

Thank you to everyone that took part in the GooseChase challenge with me! It was so much fun watching your creativity, meeting members of your family and your puppies!  You all did an excellent job!  I learned a lot, laughed a lot and most of smiled a lot!   It was nice seeing you virtually! A huge congratulations goes to all participants but our winner is….(drum roll please)

Let’s have some fun!  We are doing a fun challenge with GooseChase!  It’s an “app” based challenge with "missions" that are meant to be fun and interactive.  *All the missions will open on Monday May 11th and the challenge is over on Monday evening May 18th.  

  • The object:  Do all the “missions” and have fun!  The people who complete the challenges first, or has the most points when the challenge is over, wins!  Of course, even if you don’t “win,” we hope you have a blast with it!
  • How:  Download the GooseChase application on your phone.  Use the game code: ZDG6JV to sign up for our Game Called “GooseChase with 2sha” by Monday morning May 11th

“Trick Shot Tigers”

Rules:  Create a short video of you performing a “trick-shot”!  It can be a “real-life” awesome trick shot or sports related.

No dangerous stunts will be accepted.

  • Name your trick shot!
  • Include your family if you would like!
  • Be creative
  • Be school appropriate
  • Never put yourself in danger.
  • Your submission will be disqualified if it is too dangerous to be replicated by yourself or a peer.
  • Winning submissions may be shared on social media, so please make sure your parents give you permission!

March 25, 2020 Communication:

Good afternoon!  I hope this message finds you well.  I have updated all grades from the 3rd quarter PE units and our latest health unit including CPR/first aid, prescription drugs, and mental health.  Here are some important details

1.  Check your grades.  If you have a "1" the assignment and/or assessment can be made up for full credit.  (same policy that we have used all year).  If the grade is blank, consider yourself excused. The one exception being the Mental Health Unit- this is a summative grade because you take a quiz at the end of the section.  If you think a summative 100 would help your grade, complete this module and email me to let me know, so I can add it to your grade.  Please be sure to get an 80 0r higher on the quiz, you can retake it if needed until you get there.  If you have already completed this module, you will see the 100 in the gradebook.  I hope this will help your grade if you were missing assignments.  If you are missing a summative quiz, email me and I can send you the info to take it online by setting up a time to take it virtually.If you are missing classwork that you have at home with you, you can take a picture of the work and send it to me, but be sure to write your name on each page. For Everfi instructions, scroll to the message sent on March 13th!
 If you have trouble with Everfi, please let me know.  I can reach out to Everfi for help!

3.  I am posting communication and future information on my website for enrichment as well as notes/worksheets that we worked on this past time in health.  If you are missing stuff, email me so I can send it to you if you can not find it my webpage.

4.  Do yourself a favor and keep moving!  Please, log your activity (no matter what it is) into our "Welnet" activity logs.  No, it's not a grade but there is no harm logging your fitness!  Perhaps we can have a little healthy competition! :)    Directions are posted on my teacher page.

5.  Many of you have driver education related questions.... behind the wheel, lost DEC-8 completion cards, licensing questions, 90 min parent/teen presentation attendance....  We do not have any answers right now and have zero access to the school building.  When we know things, we will post them on our websites, the driver education teacher page, and we will email.  Feel free to email Mrs. Tousha at any time with Drivers Education ?'s.  We ask for your patience as we are learning new info each day and are asking the questions that you want to know.  We want you to get your license, finish Behind the Wheel, take the 90 minute meeting, etc- as soon as we know something, we will share.

March 23, 2020 Communication:

 

Good afternoon Brentsville PE students and parents!
   
     We hope that this message finds you well!  We have missed seeing you at school, in the gym, on the sports fields, and in the weight room.  So, what's your plan?  Do you have any goals that you now have more time for?  When this is over, is there anything that you hope to be able to accomplish?  You are in your final years of physical education (because you are in high school), and we believe that you are prepared for this health emergency.  You have learned games, workouts, fitness activities, how to assess your fitness, create fitness/wellness goals, covered many health topics, and it's time to put these things to the test!  What are you doing for YOURSELF when you aren't being held accountable?  No one is watching.  It doesn't matter..... BUT.... it does matter, doesn't it? You are/will be finding that you are in control of your own health and wellness.  Physical fitness and mental wellness is necessary for LIFE.  
    So, what should we be doing?  A few hours of learning and a few hours of doing should be our goal each day.  Learning includes schoolwork, learning something new, researching a new topic, making goals, reading (to learn or for fun), etc.  Doing includes manual home tasks (walking the dog/gardening/cleaning), fitness activities, recreation games, etc.   Challenging your mind and body is a human requirement.  It fends of boredom, give you a sense of purpose, and it leaves you with a feeling of accomplishment when you are finished!  
For Brentsville Physical Education, we are asking that our students enter our activities into a digital log.  Its easy.  The instructions are attached.  Goal is 5 hours a week, but don't stress about that, there in no minimum or maximum.  Remember all of the components of fitness: muscular strength, cardiorespiratory, flexibility, coordination, speed, power, etc.   Even Mr. Reedy can use this log, so you know its easy 🙂  
FAQs 

 

Directions: Complete optional activity log a week for the duration of the school hiatus.  This can be completed on a desktop computer or a mobile device.  Each log begins on a Monday and ends on a Sunday.  The log closes for entry on the following Monday

Goal: 5 hours a week of exercise, movement, workouts, manual labor, leisure activity, active game, coordination activity, recreation activity, etc.  Enter any activity, no matter how little or big!

Is this graded?  No, however, the log may be used when school returns to evaluate progress, self-reflect, and may become bonus points/extra credit.  

Who can see the log?  Only the student and teacher can see the entries for the activity log

March 16th update with ways to stay in shape:)

The main purpose of this email is to give you some great ideas to remain active during your time away from school.  Physical fitness is great for your overall health and well being.  I hope the spring brings great weather to get outside.  Here are some great recommendations from me to you!

 

  1. Beach body is offering a free two weeks to try their program :)
  2.     Use a tracking application like "Strava" to create runs and bike workouts!                                                                                                  
  3.  Darebe is a free website for workouts of all sorts.  Its awesome: https://www.darebee.com/ 
  4. If you already pay for Netflix, dish network, youtube TV, and a host of others, they often have workout channels and programs to do for free!
  5. Spikeball, badminton, tennis, recreation games, ping pong are all small games for small groups that would be great for quarantine situations with your family.
  6. Check out my teacher page for some in home workouts with zero equipment.  
  7. Free apps: 30 day fitness challenge, Home workout-No equipment, 7 min workout, etc.  There are too many to count!

 

Finally, as of last night, we were informed to not assign any work.   Upon return to school, we will be in physical education.  Adjustments will have to be made to the PE units we have left, but I am looking forward to being back!  At that point, I will give students a week to complete any missed health assignments from our last unit, including health EverFi assignments (prescription drug and mental health).  There is no penalty if you cannot complete work during our time off.  You will be given time to complete it when we come back in April.  If you want to knock it out, remember 1. Log into clever 2.  Use your office 365 credentials  3. scroll down and find the application "Everfi"  4. Make sure the prescription drug and mental health modules are complete.  Hint:  EverFi does work on a mobile device, but it may work better on a desktop.

March 13, 2020 Update:

I have no idea what the future will bring, but lets finish out our health unit.  For your final health assignment, please complete the EverFi modules on Mental Health.  It is definitely not as comprehensive as I would like, but I still hope you gain some understanding and knowledge.  I will be entering grades on Monday afternoon, so please complete the EverFi prescription drug modules and the mental health modules by Monday 3/16 at noon

  1.  log into Clever (log in as a student)
  2. Use prince william credentials to log in with office 365
  3. Click on the application EverFi (white logo on application page)
  4. you will see both "classes" on your screen.  Make sure you do both Prescription drug and Mental health modules!

Reminder:  Skip any survey, Do all the pre and post tests.  Finally, although it works on your mobile device, it honestly works best on a desktop with sound!
