Formatting Font Face (Type) and Size
Click on “Home” tab
In “Font” Box, Click on arrow beside font name and select “Times New Roman”
To right of font name, click on arrow and select “12” for 12 point font
 
Formatting Justification, Line Spacing, and Paragraph Indentation
Click on “Home” tab
In “Paragraph” box click on the icon that shows lines lined up evenly on the left side (there are four icons in this row-you will select the one on the left)
In “Paragraph” box click on the arrow to the right of the word “Paragraph” and go to the “Indents and Spacing” tab.
Set “Indentation” to “Special-First line” by .5. Then set Spacing to “Before” and “After” 0, and “Line Spacing” to “Double.”
Under “Line and Page Breaks” tab within this box deselect/unclick “Widow and Orphan Control”
Click “OK”

Formatting Margins and Orientation
Click on “Page Layout” tab
In “Page Setup” box, click arrow under “Margins”
If one of the margin choices shows 1 inch for top, bottom, right, and left select it by clicking on the page picture to its left
If none show 1 inch all around, choose “Custom Margins” and set top, bottom, right, and left to 1”
Be sure “Gutter” is set to 0 with “Gutter position” set to Left
To the right of “Orientation” click on the arrow and select “Portrait”
 
Formatting Header for Student #/Name and Page Numbers
Click on “Insert” tab
In “Header & Footer” box, click arrow to the right of “Header”
Click “Edit Header”—this will bring up the “Header & Footer Tools”
On the left of this menu in the “Header & Footer” box, click on the arrow to the right of “Page Number”
Choose “Top of Page” and “Plain Number 3”
With the cursor blinking to the left of the number, type your last name/student number (check with your teacher to see what you need here)and one space
Use red X on right of menu to “Close Header and Footer”
 
Formatting Title
Click at top of document and type your title.
Click on “Home” tab
Click anywhere in title and click on center justification icon in“Paragraph” box (this is the one that shows the lines all centered
Click to the next line in your document and return to left justification
 
Formatting Works Cited Page
After you have typed your entire paper, click on the next line after the last line of the paper
Click on the “Insert” tab
In the left “Pages” box, click on “Page Break”—this will get you to a new page
Type “Works Cited” at the top of the page
Click on “Home” tab
Click anywhere in this title and click on center justification icon in “Paragraph” box (this is the one that shows the lines all centered
Click to the next line in your document and return to left justification
Click on the arrow to the right of the word “Paragraph” in the “Paragraph” box
Under the “Indents and Spacing” tab, under “Indentation” and “Special” choose “Hanging” and .5 under “By”
Type each Works Cited entry only hitting the “Enter” key on your keyboard when you want to start the citation for a new source
